Effective decision-making is at the heart of every industrial business. Deciding how many products to manufacture, which markets to serve, or how many staff to deploy in the field. Every choice impacts efficiency, compliance, and growth. Yet, one of the biggest challenges you face is managing disconnected data.
The industrial landscape has shifted dramatically in recent years. Supply chain disruptions, rising raw material costs, and rapidly changing customer demands make it harder to stay competitive. On top of this, the manufacturing sector faces a growing skills gap. To respond quickly and accurately, you need trusted, actionable data. Without it, decision-making slows, inefficiencies rise, and opportunities are missed.
Understanding the Disconnected Data Challenge
To explore this issue, Intoware commissioned a survey on disconnected data among industrial businesses. The goal was to find out how data-informed companies really are. The research focused on three key themes: access to data, data skills, and a culture that embraces data-driven decision-making.
The survey asked participants whether they view data as a strategic asset and what challenges they face in accessing it. It also questioned how confident their teams are in using digital tools. Additionally, the survey explored whether companies make decisions based on data or intuition, and what plans they have to invest in improving data skills. The findings help you identify gaps in your operations and reveal ways to turn data into actionable insights.
Survey Methodology
The independent survey was conducted by Surveygoo on behalf of Intoware, covering 1,030 UK-based industrial businesses. Respondents included senior decision-makers, managers, supervisors, frontline workers, IT staff, and administration teams across utilities, oil and gas, manufacturing, civil engineering, rail, and transport & logistics sectors. Companies ranged in size from 1 to over 5,000 employees. The research was conducted from 28th February to 3rd March 2022.
Why Acting on Disconnected Data Matters
By addressing disconnected data, you can unlock faster, more informed decision-making across your operations. It allows you to:
- Quickly identify inefficiencies and risks
- Improve operational compliance and safety
- Boost workforce productivity
- Make data-driven decisions that support growth and competitiveness
In today’s digital industrial environment, your ability to connect and act on data can make the difference between maintaining the status quo and driving transformative business performance.
