What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?
My days currently are split between working on WorkfloPlus with our development team as well as supporting sales and marketing with videos and imagery. We’ve recently been working on an exciting new scheduler feature that is currently being pulled into the sprint so make sure to watch this space!
What is on your wish list for your next five years here?
I have a huge belief in what we're doing here at Intoware so I hope WorkfloPlus will continue to get better and better. Being the sole Creative currently within the company, I’d also love to eventually be leading the design department as it expands with the company's growth in the future.
What kind of skills do you need to be effective in your role?
Obviously having a good handle of UX tools is hugely important, my personal preference since joining the company has been Sketch but Adobe XD is also a brilliant alternative, especially if you’re a Windows user. If I could pick just one though it’d be empathy. I’m creating something to be used by other people so as much as I like things to look great I also need to think how a user will be interacting with the app and how it’d be used so they also have to work seamlessly.
What do you like most about your job?
Personally, for me, it’s the creative freedom I have within my role. Being the only designer is a lot of work but it's really exciting to have the opportunity to help shape and improve WorkfloPlus. Another huge perk is the company's culture, we're a small, dynamic, like-minded team who all get on really well, which I know from experience is often a hard thing to come by.
What’s your most memorable facepalm moment?
Luckily there isn't a single moment that immediately jumps out at me but here at Intoware, we have a tradition called “Doughnutting''. Basically, as an attempt to improve information security, if you leave your laptop unlocked in the office it’s fair game for someone to volunteer you to buy doughnuts for the entire office (Hence the name). With a heavy heart and an even lighter wallet, I’ve had the honour of treating my colleague to an embarrassing amount of sweet treats.
We have a tradition of having a joke of the week during our team catch up. In honour of this can you give us your favourite joke?
What's your favourite joke?
“What’s Harry Potter’s favourite way of getting down a hill? Walking… JK, Rolling” It’s terrible but I love it.
What’s your favourite line from a film?
"I saved Latin. What did you ever do?” From Wes Anderson’s breakthrough cult classic Rushmore.
Finally, who would you like to highlight from the next issue's “Meet The Team” segment?
I think Nick would be an ideal candidate, he's a top person with a very dynamic role.
